Malloy Calls His Reform Scary at Latest Town Hall Meeting « BLOGCEA

He couldn't be more wrong.  Malloy says there's no way for one person to control all the factors.  All we have to do is look at the current history of the "Education Reform" movement to see how wrong he is.  Houston, Atlanta, Illinois, Washington DC, and now Hartford.  Wherever progress is measured by test scores we see cheating, lying, and massaging of the numbers.  And who is doing this?  The teachers?  Nope, it's administration, often at the highest level.

Down at the individual class level, it is not unheard of for a teacher to have their schedule stacked with classes of non-performers.   I currently teach with an excellent teacher who recently came to my school because administration in her last district pushed her out with a stacked schedule.

Malloy is either naive or plain ignorant when he says that he foresees no way one person can control all the factors.  The unintended consequences must be considered if we are to continue to have good schools.

Malloy Calls His Reform Scary at Latest Town Hall Meeting « BLOGCEA: "Waterbury teacher Teresa Morias stepped up to the microphone to ask the governor how he could propose enabling a principal to have absolute control over a teacher’s evaluation and state certification. “How can you want to pass a bill that will enable an evaluator to bully his or her staff?” Morias asked the governor. He replied, “I don’t know what people are telling you. There’s no way one person will be able to control all the factors” outlined in the framework adopted this winter by the State Board of Education."
