Update from the Capital

Here's an update from the capital, from PTA sources who know folks who were at a discussion this morning.

The latest news we are hearing is that the Ed Comm will not vote until Monday. (The deadline is next Wednesday) There are some changes or clarifications, not sure how to define them: at this point, only the state-mandated tests that already exist will be used in that 22.5 percent of the 45 percent of learning outcomes. For the other 22.5 percent, other standardized measures will be used -- not sure what they mean. And for those who teach grades or subjects not currently tested, again other undefined standardized measures will be used. If this sounds vague, I agree, but it's what they're saying.

The state is also saying that there will be flexibility for districts in evaluations, but it must fall within the PEAC framework. I again don't have any details on how that can be flexible, what exactly that means.

I wish I knew more or had more specifics to communicate; we're doing the best we can.
