Charter School Spokesman calls Education Committee’s bill a “pathetic attempt at compromise” - Wait, What?

Charter School Spokesman calls Education Committee’s bill a “pathetic attempt at compromise” - Wait, What?: "Instead of getting rid of teacher tenure, the Education Committee voted to keep tenure but institute a new teacher evaluation system and tie that new system to an efficient and effective mechanism to remove teachers who aren’t doing a good job.

Any reasonable person would see this as a significant development that is both fair to teachers and deals with the need to get ineffective teachers out of teaching as quickly as possible.

In fact, that supposedly was the primary goal of the entire education reform effort.

So why would Riccards, ConnCAN’s spokesman, be so angry and call the plan “a pathetic attempt at compromise.”

Because this entire fight is not about making our schools better.  It is about who should “control” the public schools. Groups like ConnCAN believe that the private sector, with its “business expertise,” can do a better job.
