Heidi Fair: 'Teachers are not the problem with our schools' - NewsTimes

Heidi Fair: 'Teachers are not the problem with our schools' - NewsTimes: "Another thing that alarms me is the fact that Stefan Pryor is one of the founders of Achievement First (charter school company) and served as one of its directors up until he accepted Gov, Malloy's invitation to become Connecticut's education commissioner. This seems to me to be a conflict of interest.

Even if he has no financial ties to Achievement First, I would imagine he has an emotional investment in wanting it to succeed and has friends who will benefit from a redirection of funds to charter schools.

While charter schools may be beneficial for some students, the vast majority of students would remain in a public, neighborhood school.

Most charter schools are not interested in servicing the students with special needs, ELL (English language learners) students, emotionally disturbed and physically impaired students. This population would be left to the public school.

The opening of charter schools would decrease the amount of funding for neighborhood schools dealing with this population.

The privatization of our public schools will make profit the bottom line, not children."
