School officials worry state is taking too much control - Connecticut Post: "Under the reform package, the state education commissioner, with the approval of the state board, could waive local school rules, replace school superintendents, principals and teachers, control district spending and choose private entities to run chronically failing schools.
Charles L. Stango, chairman of the Waterbury Board of Education, said while he welcomes many of the reforms put forth by the governor and commissioner, control of the district must remain local."
