Republicans Say They Are Cut Out Of Education Talks By Democrats; Fleischmann Confirms | Capitol Watch: "Senate Republican leader John McKinney of Fairfield said that Republican participation in the talks is necessary on “something that’s critically important to all of us” on education reform.
“It’s a product that should be bipartisan,” McKinney told reporters Friday evening at the state Capitol press room. “I have not seen education be a partisan issue in my tenure in the legislature. … It is very disappointing, and quite frankly, I think troublesome for the finality of the product if the Democrats are going to meet in closed-door rooms and lock out Republicans from the process.”
State Rep. Andrew Fleischmann, a West Hartford Democrat who co-chairs the committee, confirmed to Capitol Watch on Friday night that the negotiations have covered “some knotty issues that Larry Cafero and John McKinney are not part of. That is true.”"
