Senate Approves Education Reform Bill About 3:45 a.m. | Capitol Watch:

The 185-page Senate Bill 458, “An Act Concerning Educational Reform,” now goes to the House for a vote. The 2012 legislative session adjourns Wednesday at midnight.
About an hour into a debate that started at 1:23 a.m., Republican senators were lashing out against a process that left them almost no time to review the lengthy legislation before they had to vote on it.
Sen. Joe Markley, R-Southington, said, “I was handed the bill in the caucus room just after midnight — 185 pages on what most of us will agree is the most important issue we face here this session.”
In an hour or two, Markley said, the Senate would have to vote on it. “I can’t believe anyone in the state of Connecticut thinks that’s the way we ought to be doing business.”
“This is vampire legislation,” Markley said, “a bill that emerges out of a backroom after midnight and passed the Senate before the light of dawn.”

“I won’t put up with it and I won’t support it,” Markley said. “I’m tired and I don’t have time and it would be irresponsible of me… .”
