- Wait, What?: "Malloy’s proposal would undermine the fundamental role of local boards of education. Gone would be the local board’s policy and budget control. The towns would be left finding places for the teachers who had been fired, but given no additional funds to do so.
Meanwhile, the boards would be forced to maintain funding for the schools even though they didn’t manage them. If the local board was faced with budget cuts, it would be prohibited from reducing funding for the “Commissioner’s Network” schools forcing even deeper cuts in the schools that they did have control over and if extra funding became available the board of education would have to turn over an equal part of the new money to the Commissioner’s Network school.
When the Education Committee did the right thing, CABE joined the other coalition members and fired back with a joint statement that read “We believe that the original language should be restored.”"
