We are one weekend away from losing our profession! Please help right now!

Colleagues,

We have received word that “absolutely no progress” has been made in the education committee preserving elements of the bill that would protect our salary, certification and job security. The bill is scheduled to leave the committee on MONDAY. We’ve been informed that after that, few changes will likely be made.

PLEASE EMAIL THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE RIGHT NOW!
THE MORE EMAILS, THE BETTER! PLEASE SEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO WILL HELP!

Dear Committee members,

I have been watching closely as SB24 has made its way through the Education Committee. I have concerns that not all committee members have had the opportunity to discuss the unintended consequences of elements of SB24 that could further widen the achievement gap and harm our students. Please eliminate proposals in the governor's education bill that would:
·         weaken collective bargaining that serves our communities well;
·         tie a teacher's license to a supervisor's evaluation inappropriately;
·         shift new funding away from local public schools unfairly; and
·         impose experimental programs that have not been proven to work.
I am a concerned parent, a concerned teacher, and a concerned voter who will watching and remembering who works to make SB24 a bill that improves student learning.

  1. My fear is that this is a nation-wide concerted effort on behalf of the corporate interests. Please link to the following from Maine. Maine has a Republican governor and we have what we thought was a Democratic governor (and education supporter)

    Always ask the question---"who benefits?" Then follow the money. Something is afoot and it's anybody's guess how this bill gets fixed.
