Following is a comment from a member in the East Haven local (emphasis mine):
I went to the meeting last saturday in Branford. It was set up so that local legislators could meet with each group for ten or fifteen minutes.
What I took away from the morning was that this bill has 'legs' and it is going to pass. Most of the legislators admitted that they hadn't read the bill, and none of them who were there sat on the Council for Education Reform.
One thing that they did recommend was to go through the bill and highlight what we would like to change. Some of the legislators mentioned tying in issues we saw as problematic to dollars and cents. In a nutshell, we are kind of being asked to do the work for them. What I take from this is that legislators need political cover to vote no on this bill. They need us to make the argument for them why this is bad. Please take a minute to send an email to your representatives. If you already have, send them another one. They need education on this matter.
