MariAn Gail Brown: Goodbye to collective bargaining - Connecticut Post

MariAn Gail Brown: Goodbye to collective bargaining - Connecticut Post: "It puts even the best teachers who come to work at some of the worst performing schools in a touchy place. If their school is designated a "network school," subject to direct oversight from the state Department of Education, they don't automatically get to keep their jobs.

They have to be rehired -- and they must accept must new employment terms that dramatically limit their collective bargaining rights.

That means no say in determining how teachers are evaluated. No role in how the school deals with student disciplinary issues. And not a peep about work conditions.

Theoretically, the teachers who don't win back their jobs are supposed to be able to step into another teaching job in their school district. But the bill is silent as to what happens if the entire school district is taken over by the state Department of Education commissioner and all of its schools are deemed "network" ones."
