From a Fairfield teacher who attended the New Haven rally

Last night’s meeting with Malloy in New Haven brought out hundreds of extremely passionate people (mostly teachers), and even though only 6 or 7 speakers got to address him, and even though he just kept referring back to his talking points (with almost no actual examples/evidence as to HOW he’ll implement these changes for the supposed betterment of CT’s struggling schools), anyone with ears could tell that the teachers in CT don’t want this bill passed. He’s coming to Bethel next; make your voices heard!

By the way, his major focus last night was how urban schools like New Haven have the largest “achievement gap” (meaning: don’t do well on standardized tests) in the nation. He really kept driving this point home, even when the questions had little or nothing to do with it. I wonder how he’ll bone up for Bethel, in Fairfield County, assumedly among school districts that don’t really have that seismic achievement gap...

This last one gives almost a minute-by-minute transcription of the insanity that was last night.

I’ve never been to a town hall-type meeting before, but if this is any indication of how things change in local government, it seems that the louder your voice and the bigger your presence, the better.

Now, we’ll see if Malloy (who, by the way, left in a huff) actually listens…
